Welcome to the Home Page of Nicholas S. Lander

I work as a Principal Research Scientist with the Western Australian Department of Environment & Conservation. I am stationed at the WA Herbarium where I pursue taxonomic research with a focus on the Asteraceae or daisy family. I also provide forensic botanical services.

My interest in music of the distant past has centred largely on the recorder, though I play a number of renaissance wind instruments as well as the trombone. In the past I have taught recorder at the WA Conservatorium of Music, and lectured in early music performance at the University of WA's Department of Music. I continue to teach a small number of private students.

Together with my wife, Lorna, my current pre-occupation is with the upbringing of our two children, Maeve (20) and Sam (18) whose explorations of the worlds of film-making, photography, design, music, law and science bring constant joy into our lives.
