Kilmallock was an important place in the late middle ages to the early 1600s. It suffered a decline
after Charleville was established by the BOYLE family in the mid-1600s. In the late 1700s it was probably at its
lowest point. It is now a small town in the south of county Limerick which shows its claims to a greater past by its monuments
and ruins.
During a recent trip to Ireland I copied a number of the memorial inscription in burial grounds near
Kilmallock and they are at the links below.
The Collegiate Church has been used as a burial ground for the town for several hundred years.
There are a number of monuments dated in the 1700s and 1800s that are of genealogical interest
and seem to have remained undocumented until now.
I have only copied a very few of the inscriptions of these burial grounds. If anyone has more inscriptions for
these burial grounds they can send them to me and I will add them to the web site.
