Majura Tennis Club Opening
18 September 2004
This year the courts and fences at Majura Tennis Club have been refurbished. The surfaces on court
one and two have been upgraded to artificial grass.
This is the culmination of years of fund raising by many very dedicated members and a successful application for a
very substantial grant from the ACT Government in the 2003 sport and recreation funding round. In addition,
the ACT Government, the landlord,
has replaced the fences surrounding the courts and the club house.
The club decided these events needed to be celebrated. Moreover, the club wanted to show its appreciation to the
ACT Government for the grant and for replacing the fences. As Tennis ACT has also been very supportive providing help to
the club, the club decided to invite them to participate.
The date was chosen and preparations made. Representatives of the ACT Government and Tennis ACT were invited to preside
over the opening.
A number of members gathered at the club to watch the official opening of the refurbished courts.

Everything was ready and the sun was shining.
The courts looked at their best.

Simon Corbell chatted to a representative of Tennis ACT.

The crowd gathered.

Sixto gave his speech.

Simon Corbell said a few words.

Simon Corbell said a few more words.
He is a politician and it is an election period.

The moment arrived!!!!!!

With a flourish Simon Corbell opened the courts.
