No person was more eminently distinguished for military knowledge and perhaps the world is not a little indebted for the unparalleled actions of his nephew the late Gen WOLFFE who fell before Quebec to the instructions of this gentleman. His late Majesty was graciously pleased from this consideration to make him an half pay major of horse upon this establishment: his whole life was one of continued benevolence and charity; he fought every opportunity of relieving the distressed which makes his death a real loss ...

His great losses in trade attended by a series of other misfortunes while in his business, were ineffectual motives for exciting that compassion in others, which they would expect themselves

LEP-CS1828208NPSWOODWARDB BEsqThe seven year return of ordered by parliament, containing the number of committals, &c. to the County Goal from 1820 to 1826 has been just finished and transmitted to B. B. WOODWARD, Esq. Inspector General of Prisons for Ireland. The following is a summary sketch of the entire.—Total Committed 2734—Number of Males 2604, Females 130; Convicted 983—acquitted 632, discharged by Proclamation 1119, sentanced to death 187 of whom 74 were executed—transported for life 13, for fourteen years 7, for seven years 52—Sentenced to two years and exceeding one 21—one year and exceeding six months 78,—for six months and under 625. Although getting this return ready the greatest despatch was used that could be by a single individual, yet, in consequence of the novel classification of the crimes and the circumspection necessary in tracing records so far back with precise calculation requsite, its completion occupied over three weeks. In point of arrangement it is one of the most perfect of the kind ever sent from this country.
