| Cork Const | 1837 | 3 | 04 | NPS | LEE | William | An Inquest was held at the Bridewell yesterday, before H. E. JONES, Esq., Coroner, on the body of a man named WILLIAM LEE. LEE had for a number of years been sexton at Douglas Church, and was a sober, well-conducted and respectable man. He came into the city on Thursday for the purpose of obtaining money from the City Treasurer towards the repair of a road or other public work in which he was engaged. The money he did not get, and was proceeding home-wards in the evening, when, " meeting a friend"the never-failing introduction to evil in Irelandthey went into a public house in Barrack-street, and there drank until one, at least, was intoxicated. They then parted, and nothing further was heard of LEE until his body was discovered yesterday morning near the eastern edge of the Loch. The water, where it lay, was not more than two and-a-half feet in depth. so that the unfortunate man probably staggered in and was suffocated. In one of his pockets there was about £20, which he is supposed to have brought from home in the morning. The verdict of the Jury was."Found Drowned." LEE has left a wife and thirteen children. | |
