This extraordinary man, whose height exceeded eight feet, was born in Kinsale, and had long been a wonder of the age. He was interred in the Catholic Chapel in Trenchard-street, Bristol. A gentleman had the curiosity to attend, with many others, to see the stupendous coffin, prepared for this remarkable personage, he informa us that its length was nine feet, five inches, and that five men got into it with ease, and had the lid placed upon it. The brass plate contained the folowing inscription :—" Patrick Cotter O'BRIEN, of Kinsale, Ireland, whose stature was 8 feet, one inch. Died Sept. 8, 1806, aged 46 years."— There were some emblems on it, denoting the deceased belonged to the Masonic Order of Knights Templar.

Child Murder
Ann ROCHE, an old woman, of very advanced age, was indicted for the murder of Michael LEAHY, a young child by drowning him in the Fleak. This case, which at ... assumed a very serious aspect, from the meaning imported to words spoken by the prisoner, "that the sin of the child's death was on the grand-mother, and not on the prisoner, and not on the prisoner," turned out to be a homicide committed under the delusion of the grossest superstition. The child, the four year old, could neither stand, walk, or speak—was thought to be Fairy struck—and the grand-mother ordered the prisoner and one of the witnesses, Mary CLIFFORD, to bathe the child every morning, in that pool of the river Fleak, where the boundaries of three farms met; they had so bathed it for three mornings, and on the last morning the prisoner kept the child longer under the water than usual, when her companion (the witness, Mary CLIFFORD) said to the prisoner, "how can you hope to see God after this," to which the prisoner replied "that the sin was on the grand-mother and not on her." Upon cross examination, the witness said it was not done with the intent to kill the child, but to cure it—to get the Fairy out of it
The Policeman, who apprehended her, on charging her with drowning the child, she said it was no matter as it had died four years ago.
Baron PENNEFATHER said, though it was a case of suspicion, and required to be thoroughly examined into, yet the Jury would not be safe in convicting the prisoner of murder, however strong the suspicion might be.
  Verdict—Not Guilty
In this case, Counsel for the Crown prosecuted.
The prisoner was defended by Messrs. O'CONNELL and H. WALSHE.
LC1827825NPSO'CONNELL MrAt Galway Assizes, last week, the case of breach of promise of marriage, In which Miss Ann DOYLE, of Galway, was plaintiff, and Mr. Hugh CLARKE, of Loughrea, was defendant, came before a crowded Court and Jury. Damages laid at 5000l. The lady is of a respectable family and of considerable personal attractions—the fickle suitor wealthy, but beyond the meridian of life. The Jury marked their displeasure of his bad taste and want of honor, by a vedict of 1000l. and costs. Mr. O'CONNELL led for the plaintiff, and Mr. NORTH, M. P. for defendant.

I therefore send it to you for publication. On the day appointed for celebrating Mr. O'CONNELL's return for the County of Clare, a mob of the lowest description of ruffians assembled, and a riot being considered by several of the Magistrates as likely to ensue, the military were ordered out by Major MAXWELL. A newly made Magistrate then interfered, and some warm language took place between the two gentlemen. The military, hovever, did eventually turn out, but appeared without arms, and bore green boughs in their hands, and cheered frequently for Mr. O'CONNELL.—Warder.

The Ellection

Bruff:—By a communication we had on Saturday from Bruff, it is highly creditable to the Freeholders, in that district, to find, that although disposed to support their Noble Landlord in that quarter, when any member of his own family solicits their support. Yet, that they consider they would cease to be 'Freeholders,' were they to be transferable like the black cattle they are feeding to pay his Lordship's rent, to sustain the epherneral pretentions of a stranger. The address by Mr. W. J. O'CONNELL, on Friday, explained these claims, at the same time as pointing them out, nay, and, to their wives also, the bold and dauntless spirit, which has given Waterford, Louth, Westmeath, and above all, immortalized Clare, as the Athens of Irish Liberty.

Cork, and within a few miles of Kilfinan, in this county.— After some resistance on the part of the farmers, they were overpowered by the superiority of numbers, (the party being five in number, all well armed.) and robbed of property to a large amount. CONNELL succeeded in getting off, and gave information to Charles Deane OLIVER, Esq. who assisted by Messrs ADAMS, WALSH, and GABRIEL, went in pursuit of the villains, with a party of the Co. Limerick regt. and the Kilfinan yeomanry, and fortunately succeeded in aprehending three of them, one of whom fired a pistol at Mr. ADAMS. Two pocket books, containing bank notes taken from the persons of FITZGERALD and CONNELL, were found in their possession. On Saturday night, in endeavouring to apprehend one of the above fellows that escaped, all are sorry to state a soldier of the Co. Limerick ia was shot by him through the body and instantly expired. The villain has, for the present, eluded the vigilance of pursuit.
