“Quality in Revegetation & Rehabilitation”

Nindethana Seed Service was initially conceived and commenced in New South Wales in 1955.  The aim was to run a wholly native seed supply service to promote Australian plant species.

The business has been owned and operated in Western Australia since 1976.  In that time it has developed a network of contract pickers Australia wide to expand the range of species that could be offered.  Nindethana is dedicated to the conservation of native vegetation by supplying quality seed for rehabilitation, horticultural and research purposes.

Seed Archive

The business has grown to the point where, with more than 3,000 species offered in over 10,000 separate lots, it represents the largest and most diverse collection of seed of Australian flora, either private or institutional. The archive now houses may rare seed lots, including representatives of flora communities subsequently cleared for agriculture.

Most species are made available in small $1.65 packets to promote experimentation with their cultivation by individuals as well as private companies and institutions.

Seed Production

Nindethana has pioneered the commercial production of seed, from its orchard in Australia’s South-West.  This has been created primarily to supply bulk seed for mine site and roadside rehabilitation. Cultivation of rare species has also made it possible to include them in seed mixes for rehabilitation projects.

Information Services

Information on species selection for varying site, soil, climatic conditions and details on provenance origins for individual seed lots are available.  We can also provide details on growth habits and sowing rates.  Potential commercial value as salt tolerant fodder, plantation timber, essential oils, therapeutic compounds etc.  Nindethana has been developing a comprehensive database for this purpose.  Expansion of the database will be ongoing to keep abreast with requests for information from customers.
