About the site
Being in the highest cyclone prone area of Australia, Hedland has experienced at times some extreme conditions. Cyclone season is from the start of November to the end of April, with peak activity during summer.
Hedland is a port town servicing the mining export of vast reserves of iron ore from the Pilbara region. Over 280,000,000 tonnes of iron ore alone is exported through the port annually, the highest tonnage port in Australia. Of note the record of "worlds longest train" set in 2001, was from Newman and Hedland.
Although this is an ammeter run station and only a hobby, it does provide an interesting insight to the micro conditions of local weather. Station data is also submitted to other global weather agencies.
