'cello

late summer
I lift you into
the kitchen
Bach beside the backdoor
the late afternoon sun
like strained tea over
leaf and lawn

my fingers know you as home
thrumming out their mantra of memory
singing as I sway
and forget

and when I remember
I'm holding you
the backyard in shadow
summer has gone
