Savage Garden.
Unfortunately I missed my opportunity to see
Savage garden when they came to Perth. By the time I made up my mind to
get the tickets, there were none left. That didn't stop me from considering
this band the best band that has ever come out of Australia. I'm not alone
in this thinking either. They scored a record number of ARIA awards (Australian
Music Awards) in 1997 and by the end of the night, they were having to
try and think of extra people to thank: "Uhh... oh yeah, thanks to..."
Their self titled album is great and I love
the extra bonus dance remix CD that came with it. Being an Australian band,
I have an extra little bit of pride in seeing them do so well in the US
charts. I think they deserve their success but I'm amazed how down to earth
they are with it. They held a press conference a couple of months back
and they simply walked into the room and sat at the front of a room filled
with plastic chairs and answered the questions - very low key, very personal,
very practical.
