Scuba Diving.
What can rival the tranquility and peace of
diving with the creatures of the deep over terrain the likes of which you
couldn't possibly find anywhere on dry land? The answer is not very much.
Under the waves lives another world with an elegance and a beauty that
almost can't be beaten above the water.
There is such a variety in what you will see
and experience under the waves, but in order to experience all of this
first hand, the only hurdle is being able to do it. In comes PADI - the
Professional Association of Diving Instructors. This association assures
people of professional training and a certified PADI diver can progress
through several levels. I am the basic level - International Open Water
Diver. From here I can advance to Advanced Open Water, and on to Instructor
or Dive Master levels.
As far as locations for diving go, I'm rather
blessed where I live. Just off the west coast is the island of Rottnest.
This island is surrounded by a glorious (although sometimes perilous) reef
that is teeming with all of the different forms of underwater life that
you would expect (apart from sharks, luckily). Depending on which side
of the island you go to, you can see wrecks, sandy plains, reef and kelp
forests. All of this in the temperate waters of Perth.
