Requirements for water for grapes supplementary to rainfall at Gingin

• 1850 Vines per Hectare at 30 litres per vine for 7 days.
• 1850*30=55500 litres/hectare/week.
• 55500/7=7928.7 litres/hectare/day
• 7928.7*365=2893975.5 litres/hectare/year or 2894 kilolitres.
• Allowance from water permit- 63000 kilolitres per year.
• 63000/2894= 21.71 hectares.
• 21.71*2.47=54.6 acres.

The current water allowance of Madeline's Valley will allow 54 acres (22 ha) of grapes.

The wine grapes currently grown in the district are Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Verdelho.
