Highton Manor, Mansfield, Australia
As I’m driven through suburban Mansfield to this accommodation, my expectations lower – will Highton Manor be a grandly misnamed brick and tile house? Then we slide through impressive gates to be surprised by an imposing brick mansion in expansive grounds, which for some reason reminds me of the school in Picnic at Hanging Rock. Upstairs, the rooms are elegant and comfortable, and without the frou-frou that many owners of B&Bs in old homes feel compelled to add. The two best rooms are at the front, with sweeping views over the grounds. A great option for a family group is the Party Room, a large attic-style space with beds for several people. Beyond the manor, Mansfield offers loads of outdoor activities, and some decent dining options. In winter the town is a logical staging post for trips to the snowfields. Tim Richards was a guest of Tourism Victoria. Just the Facts: Highton Manor
