William JONES was born c.1809 Norfolk, England. Convicted 9/4/1829 for 'steal umbrella' and sentenced to 7 years transportation. On arrival in Sydney he was assigned to Daniel Cooper and worked at Waterloo Plains Station which was possibly in the Lake Bathurt, NSW area.

He received his ticket-of-leave on 6/4/1835 and continued to work on the station for wages. After receiving his ticket-of-freedom on 11/5/1843 he lived for a while at Collector, NSW and then moved to Gunning, NSW where he worked as a carpenter and undertaker. He had married Elizabeth LEWIS [arrived per 'Bussorah Merchant' 11 August 1833, free] on 1/10/1835. They had 10 children and their eldest daughter, Matilda, born Lake Bathurst 27/4/1836 married George Edward MURRAY at Collector on 28/6/1852. George and Matilda were my great-grandparents.
