Parkhurst Boys 1842-1862 |
| Equestrian - arrived in TAS in 1852 | |
|
The 'Equestrian' is said to have left the Isle of Wight on August 19, 1852 and to have travelled to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) with 29 Parkhurst boys on board. She sailed from Plymouth on September 1, 1852 with a total of 290 male prisoners and arrived in Hobart on December 16, 1852. All 29 Parkhurst boys were said to have disembarked in Tasmania. Paul Buddee's book, 'Fate of the Artful Dodger' and his research notes which were deposited in the Battye Library in Perth some time later, listed the boys. The 29 'exiled' boys who were transported on the 'Equestrian' are transcribed below. | |
