[ Voyage Details | Passenger List | Crew List ]

The ARAFURA left London, England on November 11, 1882 and arrived in Fremantle, Western Australia on February 7, 1883. Her London agent said there were 14 government immigrants on the voyage while the agent in Western Australia mentioned the arrival of 15 passengers.

The British built barque weighed about 540 tons and was crewed by 13 men.

Passenger and crew lists appear further down the page but in the meantime, the following items of correspondence should provide an interesting insight into the voyage, the passengers and the manner in which they travelled.

Beverley Mackinlay has been the driving force behind this project and may have uncovered more information on the ARAFURA's passengers and the family historians researching them. Cyber-tourists are encouraged to e-mail Beverley and any other researchers mentioned.

The Barque ARAFURA arrived last night from London having left London on the 12th November 1882, with 15 nominated emigrants.

I visited the Ship this morning and find there is no complaints by the passengers or Officers.

Accommodation is good ..(indecipherable) and well ventilated. Provisions are ample and of good quality. The Passengers are all clean and healthy.
