Viet Nam Revisited 2008Day 5
A slightly later start to our tour today, a day which would see us heading northwest to the Cu Chi tunnels. First though, was a stop to see rice paper being prepared for the making of spring rolls. I just happen to love Vietnamese spring rolls, so it was fascinating to see the process, from the dexterity, to the timing involved, and the fact that even the rice chaff is used to create the fire for cooking. Nothing is wasted. Here Mr Hiep demonstrated his skills with many of the implements used to start the process of turning rice grain into liquid form.

Back on the bus and off to the tunnels. Our tunnel guide was very friendly and thorough in his explanation and description as to how these worked and how cleverly they were disguised. Once again the skill of the Aussie patrols that did found them, and the courage of the tunnel rats came strongly to mind. I salute you all.

Our Cu Chi Guide shows how to enter a tunnel entrance, he is holding the cover which is covered in leaves, this fits neatly into place as he disappears.
The hunger pangs now needed appeasing, and so it was off to Ben Duoc floating Restaurant, on the Saigon River. Once again the meal was delicious, and the setting just perfect. Back on board the bus for a leisurely drive back to Saigon.
