Viet Nam Revisited 2008Day 6
Today would see us head off by bus for Ben Tre in the Mekong Delta. Along the way we stopped at the Cao Dai temple near Long An. This is an incorporation of 3 religions ( Catholic, Buddhist and Taoist ) I found this Pagoda and its spiritual concept very fascinating intriguing.
Wendy and I at the Mekong Rest Stop.
Back aboard and heading for the aptly named Mekong Rest Stop just on the northern fringe of My Tho. This was really picturesque, with beautifully presented shops and clean facilities. Soon it was time move, heading for our day on the Mekong at Ben Tre. Mr Hiep pointed out via the tourist billboard, the various points of interest that we would visit, before boarding our river boat for the trip to Turtle Island. Here again we dined on a delicious meal, Then, we again boarded our sampan for the tour along many of the Islands canals, stopping for a ride in a horse drawn cart, before cruising to the coconut candy factory. This was fabulous and we all bought many of the different candies. It was here at the shop That Bob said he'd try the Snake whisky. We all watched in amazement as he did just that! Reluctantly we had to leave.

Well someone had to hold the snake, cos I had the camera!
Where did the day go, for it was all over far too soon and it was time to head back to Ben Tre. It was just the most perfect of relaxing days, and a great way to end our tour of the south. On the trip back to Saigon I realized I wasn't going to make it back, luckily our driver knew in an instant where I could go. With its outdoor trough and a container that lost more water than it could hold. After many refills, well I guess you get the picture....
