Modified Production Spectacular a Huge Success

25th November 2006

Well the crowd had been waiting long enough and the anticipation was high for the return of the Modified a Production Series in Kingaroy. The lights stayed on, the rain held off and the track sizzled as the big guns battled it out for round 2 of the HDS Drilling Services Series.

The Mod Prods were supported by a strong field of both Street Sedans Div I & II and ASCF Juniors as they prepare themselves for the upcoming Qld State Titles that will be held here early next year (6th January for ASCF Juniors, and 25-26th January for Street Sedans).

The ASCF Juniors did themselves proud with a big field of well presented cars including a large number of new Junior Drivers and brand new cars. Special encouragement awards should go out to the likes of newcomers Kayla Barron & Grant Eichorn for their participation and perseverance throughout the night. But it was the familiar sight of Shane Heathcote, Scott Thomson, David Clarke and Michael Francis fiercely battling it out throughout the night and finishing in that same order.

The crowd was treated to a spectacular display when nearly 30 cars lined up in the Modified Production Feature Event which saw the green flag drop and no race stoppages for the first 19 laps. The track had dried out and some serious race rubber was laid down in an action filled final which included some ingenious parallel parking manoeuvres, (Unintentional) the Zahl Racing car loosing a wheel mid corner and even a fire on board one of the Cooroy Wreckers entries.

Local Drivers Darren Baldwin and brothers Brett and Travis Barron teamed up against visitors like Garry Maroske, Greg Worling and Greg and Aiden Raymont but no one was able to peg back current Qld No.1 Driver Todd Doyle in his immaculately presented Trackwell Commodore. Doyle really dominated the whole night but was not let off too lightly as Maroske hounded him down repeatedly in his mighty Mazda Rotary and kept Doyle within reach.

Even the Street Sedans stepped up to the plate and put on a great display throughout the night, Division I driver Murray Dioth picked up a heat win in his brand new Ford Falcon during his first night back on the track but it was Division II driver Rob Shanks that had everyone talking as he rounded the night off with 2 heat wins and a well deserved and convincing Feature win contested closely by Jessica Raymont and David Kent.

Everyone is looking forward to the next 2 upcoming meets as ASCF Juniors and Street Sedans Battle it out for a chance to become QLD 1 in both their respective classes!

Have a great X'MAS!

Remember…… If u drink and drive………. Ur a bloody idiot!!!!!

Speedway set to go off with a BANG!!!

24th August 2006

If you love the sound of ground shaking, bumper-to-bumper dirt track racing, then this is the night for you! Saturday the 9th Sept marks the end to a long wait for speedway fans, drivers and crews as the night comes alive with the Kingaroy Peanut Festival Speedway and Fireworks Spectacular!

There is a great line up from various divisions including, Super Street Sedans, Street Sedans Division I and II, East Coast A Grade sedans, and a strong field of ASCF and QSCA Juniors. Most importantly it marks the return of the "Modified Production Series" which always puts on a display of fast, top class, dirt track racing. You can guarantee that there will be no holding back as this will be the first opportunity for both Holden and Ford to compete for the chequered flag and show their dominance for the coming season.

The club is fortunate to have a growing number of Juniors and it is great to see how these young guys and girls take to the sport and develop so quickly. It is reassuring to see the talent rising up through the juniors ranks. Keep your eyes out for the likes of Josh Howell, Mickael Long, Kirstie Harm, Trent Humphreys and Nathan Barbeler just to name a few. These "kids" really are the future of the sport.

So will it be Holden or will it be Ford?

Come on down, bring your family or bring a friend (full bar and canteen are available), and watch the thrills and spills as local and visitors charge to the finish line to show their supremacy!

The night will be topped of with an impressive fireworks display as the night explodes into a mass of colour and the air is filled with the familiar "Ooohs and Aaahhs" from the crowd as they gaze upwards into the night sky!

See you at the track!

Spectacular Rollover Action at Season Finale

27th May 2006

The night was primed to be a bumper night of speedway action as many visiting and local drivers went head to head to compete for valuable club points before the end of the 2005-2006 race season. Formula 500’s and Microsprints made the trip back to Kingaroy to show everyone the sheer speed, acceleration and agility of these powerful open wheeled dirt racers.

Super Street Sedans put on an incredible display of grit and determination in what was seen as a fierce battle of the “big guns” as Holden and Ford did their best to dominate the field. Lee Stephans and Adrian Stott could not hold back Steve Price as he edged them out for a final lap victory.

The crowd was shocked by the amazing speed of the Formula 500’s as they proceeded to consistently put in 15 second laps with Mick Pronger showing Dale Shilleto and Steve Caunt his rear wing and managed to hold them off till past the finish line. A frightening accident in turn 2 of the feature event saw the ambulance attend but none of the drivers required none of the drivers required medical attention much to the relief of the spectators and crews alike.

Current QSCA Junior Title holder Jason Slade edged out Ashley Ekins and Trent Humphries and showed the crowd why he was able to dominate during the recent “Qld Title” event held here in Kingaroy.

Russel Cowely and Darryl Retschlag could not hold back Craig Franz as he drove to a brilliant victory in Division I Street Sedans just as Kieralee Pearce and Wayne Slade were unable to make up lost ground from Richard Brosnan in Street Sedan Division II.

There is no doubt about it the talking point for the night will be the spectacular rollover incident that occurred when the Surfers Paradise Sedans took to the track resulting in one car finishing on its roof. None the less John Tischler beat Steve Love and Keith Kraft to the finish line for the feature event.

Its great to get some spectacular action to nicely round off the season. Hard to believe that the whole season has gone so quickly. We've certainly had our fair share of ups and down this season. Overall, it's been a good one though. Can't wait to see it all again in a few months time!

Catch ya's all then,

Speedway marks the end of the show!!

29th April 2006

The rain held off and the tempreture was right for what is normally a cold finish to the Kingaroy show. The tension was building in the crowd and after the impressive fireworks display speedway finally got underway at 8pm.A strong field of visiting drivers represented the east coast "A" grade and the Surfers Paradise Sedans as well as our local divisions Super Street Sedan, Street Sedan divisions 1, 2, and QSCA Juniors.

The gauntlet was thrown down when the division 1 street sedans decided to take on the big guns and mix it up against the Super Streets in a breathtaking display of speed and skill which saw the lesser powered Murray Dioth, Ron Oliver and Darrell Retschlag finish closely behind the Super Street Sedans of Adrian Stott, David Barbeler and Kristian Walker.

Surfers Paradise Sedans were vying for their 2006 State Title winner and they were an absolute crowd pleaser as they dominated the track with their growling V8 engines and huge aerodynamic wings. Chad Pallet showed his brilliance once again and managed to edge out Colin and Tarnie Morris in the feature event during which a number of cars were forced to retire early from accident damage and catastrophic engine failures. This left the door open and a brilliant drive from Chad allowed him to accept the trophy at the end of the night and the much sought after title of Qld# 1.

Nathan Macdonald and Martin Cross could not get ahead of Darran Lester in their feature event as he drove his car to yet another win in the East Coast "A" Grade Sedans.

QSCA Juniors once again put on an impressive display as they battled it out. Upcoming local talent Josh Howell suffered yet another knock back with an engine failure which saw him eliminated earlier on in the night, while Trent Humphries held of Ashley Ekins and Nic Couch in a brilliant drive that saw him take the lead in the last 2 laps of the race. This made for a heart pounding finish and an exciting end to a great night of racing.

Let's hope that the ground shaking modified production car series will return to Kingaroy for the meet next month (27th May)! Although, with the impressive support field lined up, I am sure it is going to be a spectacular night anyway as all drivers and race teams fight it out for final points for the 2006 season.

May the fleas from 1000 camels infest your belly button - hahaha...!!! Catchya's!

Pint sized power carves up the track!

18th March 2006

Spectators and crews were treated to an outstanding display of driving during the ASCF Junior Titles which were held in Kingaroy on Saturday 18th March. The titles saw many entrants with some drivers coming from as far away as South Australia, NSW, and Victoria. An extremely high level of skill was displayed during the event and the Juniors (aged between 10yrs and 16 yrs) did not disappoint the crowd as they battled it out for the prized Qld # 1 Title.

Young local drivers had their hands full as they tried to stop the onslaught from the “Mexicans" who had come to take the crown back with them “south of the border”. An impressive display from the likes of Shane Heathcote, Charlie Brown and David Clark saw them place well for the night but no one could stop the unbelievably quick little Daihatsu Charade rocket of talented South Aussie lad Adrian Cottrell as he dominated the entire feature event despite several restarts and stoppages. Cottrell recently placed well in the Australian title held in Alice Springs in February this year and this had definitely prepared him well for the season.

The Formula 500's showed the crowd some nail biting open wheeled action as they carved up the track in a neck and neck duel that showcased some of the best drivers in the state. Dale Shilleto placed in the top two all night and won the feature event. These are extremely quick cars and always a crowd pleaser when they attend this tight little Kingaroy track.

Mikael Long from Nanango took the chequered flag ahead of a competitive field of QSCA Juniors as he demonstrated what he has install for the rest of the year, while talented young local Josh Howell was dealt with a series of mechanical problems which stopped him from showing the crowd his potential in a newly prepared race car. New sensation to the sport, Leona Sloan showed the lads that she is ready to take them on with a brilliant drive that gave her 2nd place overall for the night.

Lesson of the month:

Juniors Reign Supreme

18th February 2006

Saturday 18th February saw a strong field of juniors go head to head in an amazing showdown of skill and speed as they competed for the much sought after "Queensland Number One" title. An energetic group of local juniors did their best to hold back the onslaught of visiting drivers who were keen to show the crowd “Who’s the Boss”.

Upcoming local lads Josh Howell and Mikael Long retired prematurely during the finals event with mechanical failures, leaving it up to the local girls Samantha Barbeler and Leona Sloan to work their way through the pack. But even they could not stop the likes of 1st place-getter Jason Slade as he was closely followed in by Scott Thomsen 2nd and last years Qld #1 defending champion Jessica Raymont in 3rd.

The Tunnah Earthworks Ozmicrosprint Qld State Title proved to be exciting with Mark and John Giersbergen putting and end to Steve Elliott’s fairy tale run by halting his domination in this event as he has previously notched up 5 Qld State Titles under his belt.

The crowd was treated to some very competitive racing and a sigh of relief rang out after a spectacular flip in the third heat saw the driver emerge unscathed.

The Street Sedans had the locals on their feet to cheer them on as Murray Dioth and Ron Oliver placed 2nd & 3rd behind visiting driver Travis Hutchinson in Division 1 and Simon Barbeler managed to edge out Rob Shanks and Michelle Barbeler in Division 2. It was an amazing night of tire screeching action that ended when a sickening crash in the Super Street Sedan Feature race saw several cars towed off the track and the night was cancelled with two events left to go.

No doubt, we will be seeing more Juniors battle it out for the Qld #1 position next month when we have the ASCF Juniors State Title right here in Kingaroy.

Until then, catchya's!

Juniors Rock Kingaroy!!!

21st January 2006

The weather leading up to the weekend was looking ominous and people were getting anxious to see if yet another speedway night will be rained out for the 2005-2006 season.

Many travelling ASCF and QSCA Juniors were amongst those relieved to find out that the skies had cleared and it was all systems go as they showcased a spectacular display of what the future of this sport has to offer. The South Burnett Speedway Club has been given the opportunity to host State Titles for QSCA (Queensland Saloon Car Association) Juniors on 18th February 2006, followed by the ASCF (Australian Saloon Car Federation) Junior Title on 18th March 2006. Both of these divisions are overflowing with an amazing group of juniors that race with the intensity and competitiveness of a seasoned race car driver. Some of these Juniors are already on their way to Alice Springs for the upcoming National Title. The night saw David Clark and Scott Thomsen victorious in their respective divisions while local driver Josh Howell took third place for his efforts.

There was some very competitive racing in all divisions, with all of the feature events producing some entertaining dirt track, bumper to bumper action. A spectacular crash during the Street Sedan Division 2 feature decimated the field during their final event. Also Luke Hollyman was there to take the lead when a string of mechanical failures saw a large number of cars prematurely retired for the night in Super Street Sedans.

A display from the Vintage Speedcar Association generated a lot of interest from the crowd and it was great to see these old open wheeled race cars in original race trim in full flight around the track.

Don't miss our upcoming action as we have FOUR state titles right here in our hometown in the next two months!

Keep it off the walls!!!

Speedway spectacular dogged by visit from Murphy…!

10th December 2005

Saturday night was set to be the biggest speedway event of the year with the return of the ground shaking Modified Production series and V8 Super Sedans to Kingaroy. The ominous weather during the week had cleared, and spectators came out of the woodwork to be a part of what was to be an awesome 50 event monster speedway showcase.

What started out as a very wet track soon dried out and some very fast events followed as the Modified Productions and V8’s carved up the track in a display of big horse power bumper to bumper racing. The atmosphere was electric and the crowd went wild when local modified production driver Darren Baldwin and visiting driver Todd Doyle put on an amazing display of what the crowd could expect for the night, only to have the lighting switch off and leave half of the track in total darkness near the completion of the race! The race was declared with Baldwin taking the victory for his first event for the 2005-6 season.

After the electrical fault was repaired, a line up of eager Super Sedan cars was sent out to put the night back on track. However, their spectacular display could not keep the night going when the same lights went off again in the middle of the race.

Disappointingly, the night ended when a vehicle on Youngman Street was involved in an accident, sending our in-field ambulance to the scene.

…. and who said that bad things don’t ALWAYS happen in three’s???!!!

Catch ya on the track next time,

Finally, speedways back…!!!

12th November 2005

The weather leading up to the weekend was ominous, and after last month’s rain-out a lot of spectators and drivers were unsure if the meeting would go ahead. Fortunately the skies turned blue and the rain held off, which lead to the first official meet for the 2005/2006 season being a success.

Local drivers had their hands full as they did battle with visiting drivers in various divisions. Some very entertaining events unfolded throughout the night and a lot of good quality racing was seen by all, especially from the juniors, micro sprints and super streets. It was all bumper to bumper racing with no one giving an inch.

Street sedan division I & II were combined throughout the night. Neil Harm managed to get his falcon home just in front of Chris Cooper’s commodore and third place getter Murray Dioth. Michelle Barbeler (DivII) placed 4th overall beating some quality division I cars along the way.

Super Street Sedan visiting drivers Jeff Peacock and Luke Hollyman proved very hard to beat, but an amazing charge from David Barbeler in the last few laps gave him a second place for his efforts.

Similarly in the junior rankings, local driver Mickael Long placed third overall only to be beaten by visiting drivers Jessica Raymont and Trent Humphries. The juniors really race hard against each other and are a shining example of the calibre of the drivers that are coming up through the ranks. It is reassuring to see the dedication and commitment of these young guys and girls, it makes you realise that the future of our sport is in good hands!

Catch ya on the track,

Practice Night

17th September 2005

The beginning of the new season is nearly here once again, for some of us it has come around way too soon. Quite a few of our regular drivers, co-drivers and crew were seen at the practice night… minus their beloved race car!!!!!

Those of us that made it to the track with race cars in tow, managed to make the best of their time on the track with many opportunities to get out there and get dirty. This was valuable time as everyone was seen making last minute adjustments and overcoming issues that had now been introduced due to the past months of tinkering and modifying.

Looks like most people have put a lot of effort into the presentation of their cars during the off season. There are some pretty slick looking machines out there that have been given a new colour scheme, a fresh coat of paint and new sign writing… There will be some very happy sponsors out there. It is great to see people taking the time and effort to make sure that their cars are presentable for the general public therefore making it more attractive to existing and potential sponsors.
Best of all most people managed to keep off the wall!!!!!

About eleven cars were there on the night with a variety of classes that will be seen here this year, including street sedans, super streets, modified production and even a formula 500. Some of these were visiting drivers who had travelled considerable distance to get their cars sorted out before the new race calendar officially starts.

The track itself had been prepared really well. Hats off to the guys for their efforts during the week and on the day. If we can manage to present the track like this regularly there will be a lot of smiling faces come race night!!!!!

The night was a good intro for the new committee for what to expect in the future and as time goes on everyone will find their feet, jobs will be allocated and everyone will know “Who’s who in the zoo!”

Once again well done to all involved!!!!

Look forward to seeing you on the track next month.
