On a sunny day
It is good to get out and play.
[ Sydney, aged 9, Rangeway Primary School ]

Sunny days and sunny hearts
Both make good things grow.
[I know, I know...it doesn't rhyme - Rhonda]

on sunny days i wash my clothes
or sit and watch the weeds all grow.
[ mine doesn't either - minnie]

Weeds are the only plants that see me through thick and thin
Because they grow so lush even when I'm not tending them.
[Rhonda]

Weeds are just plants wrongly placed;
I pleasure feel when they are effaced.
[minnie]

As long as it grows lush and green
It's always held in high esteem.
[and the subject line was something Victor Borge once said about Guissepe Verde
which is a far reach for this topic but what popped to mind - Rhonda
]

Joe Green wrote La Traviata
About Violetta, the martyr.
Aida was all about slaves
And how they are buried in caves.
But rigoletto takes the prize
It's about stabbing ones daughter with knives.
[minnie]

On Opera lore I've never shined
My tastes were never that refined.
[Actually, it was the piercing tones of the soaring arias that repelled me.
I must admit I have softened in recent years - Rhonda
]

Joe Green's music is very pretty.
Don't enjoy it??? that's a pity.
But the plots leave much to be desired
The heroine is habitually expired.
[minnie]

It wasn't the music to which I objected
but vocal quality was less than respected.
[Seriously, I liked the tenors but the notes hit by some of the women caused flinching.
In the last few years though I've decided it was a youthful over-reaction. It happens to the best of us.
A friend suggested Carmen as a good opera to start with - Rhonda
]

I'd recommend Verdi for beginners;
Just be careful to chose a production with good singers.
[seriously, verdi's music is very pretty and well worth getting to know.
rigoletto or la traviata are my recommendations - minnie
