Prior to my visit to Iran I imagined it to be a country of gardens. This view was formed from my reading of the quatrains of Omar Khayyam. I vaguely understood that some parts of the country received no rainfall, for the most part, but didn't translate that into the reality of a land which relies mainly on water tapped from the mountains. This page is devoted to deserts with some contrasting scenery to relieve the eyes. Like Australia, most of the country is desert.
