This is a small selection of the 'upper' bits of various mosques and shrines (and the harem in Esfahan and a bathhouse turned into a restaurant) to show a small bit of the wonderful decorative work which goes into the religious buildings. Some I can identify and some I can't as I picked them at random from my many hundreds of photos. Some were taken at difficult angles and some have been enormously enhanced to bring out the detail.

An old bathhouse morphed into a restaurant, where we had dinner

Decorative mirrorwork said to have evolvedbecause all the mirrors
imported into Persia were broken by the time they arrived.

Taken in The Ladies' Mosque in the Maydan, Esfahan

A Mosque being renovated. The brickwork is beautiful. Note the squinches

More decorative brickwork

A detail from the ceiling of one of the apartments in the Princes Palace, Esfahan
Note the intricate floral decorations in the small panels
