This page is to show some of the places where we stopped for a meal. Several of the dining rooms were converted from the central courtyards of old houses and were gorgeously decorated. I only photographed the best of them. I am sorry that some did not turn out as well as I had hoped; often the light was inadequate or, in one case, I was photographing into the light and probably didn’t use the correct camera setting.

If anyone is wondering why I never manage to get anyone’s face in focus … I use a blur tool; some people have very strong objections to having their faces displayed on the internet so I have only ever done it once in another place, and that was with permission since the person in question already had a named photo on another site.

The food which we were served was generally rather bland and almost invariably tagine and which was seriously lacking in spices, presumably to cater for European taste buds. I make tagines at home and am used to being much more heavy handed with the spices. There was one tagine which we encountered twice; meatballs with eggs baked all across the top … it was delicious. I have searched out a recipe for this dish and will add it to the tagine section of my recipes folder as soon as I have tested it.

We were warned not to eat anything in the way of fruit or salad unless we could peel it ourselves and were especially warned against water melon as it apparently has the ability to absorb liquids and presumably any water-borne bugs in that liquid. One of the ladies in our party washed strawberries in her glass of bottled water. One of the problems was that we were served salads and fresh fruit, none of which we could eat with any degree of confidence, except bananas and oranges. But often the oranges came already peeled and sliced and sprinkles with cinnamon.

In consequence, most of us succumbed to tummy wogs of varying types and degrees of discomfort. There was one person in the group who ate everything with relish and had no ill effects whatever. We all watched him with awe, envied him and admired him for his bravery.
