What is The Podbay? The Podbay is my personal website. Like most personal sites on the web, it's an odd assortment of topics that reflects the varied interests of the owner. The site was first set up in 1996 and has been on line continuously since then, though the content has evolved substantially over that time. It is hosted by iiNet, a service provider based in Perth, Western Australia. Design principles My approach to the design is to keep it as simple and functional as possible. I like web pages that load quickly, offer useful information and have no annoying features; so that's what I have tried to achieve here. There are no frames, no java rollovers and no cgi scripts, just simple hypertext markup. I try to be browser independent and W3 compliant, but I'm strictly an amateur so I may sometimes fall short of that goal. Design tools I write the html code manually, with some with some help from Evrsoft's First Page 2000 for image placement and checking. Original images are shot using my old Kodak DC215 digital, and rendered at 72 dpi for the web. Image manipulation is done with Adobe Photoshop 4.0. Using these simple tools allows me to stay in control of exactly what goes into each page. Who am I? Just one more nerdy guy with too much time on his hands. Beyond that, I have nothing to say. As the philosopher Michel Foucault wrote: "Do not ask who I am and do not ask me to remain the same: leave it to our bureaucrats and our police to see that our papers are in order. At least spare us their morality when we write." |
