Peter Davidson
Dear David,
I offer you this opinion to your dialogue.
Any space that is enclosed or open
is controlled by an authority, Parr needs to engage the dilemma of the power
that controls the space, he declares it 'empty', it is not empty. Its a university
space supported by state and business.
Malevich's white paintings are not empty, they are laced with protest against
the administrative authority of Russian Orthodox Church in the early part of
the nineteenth century. Russian royality and religious hierarchy used icons
(art) as a means of control. Malevich's paintings are a stand against this administrative
state/church control of the starving masses through their demands of devotion
to icons, (rather than the doctrines of Christ) seems to be the point of the
white paintings, the emptiness of adoration of art, no matter what guise it
took.
This 'waiting room' Parr refers to, I consider is about the arrival of justice?
There seems to be a manipulation of controlling the arrival of justice, from
state and religious administrations. The delay comes from lack of recognition
of justice by administrators of any institutions, even though they are faced
with the hard evidence of injustice, this is not exceptable. Secondly and hardly
surprising that lawyers seem to be also the cause of delay and silence in justice
(confidentiality clauses) to protect who, maybe administrators, not the doctine
of institutions. People have a right to a doctrine, even if i dont agree with
it. The issue is the suppression of justice is who does this serve?
A Catholic Columbian missionary, who worked Chile and protested against the
Pinochet reigme once told me, it was through the arts of music, poetry and painting
that changed things. The collective will of the people and there desire for
change causes overthrows, individually to do this comes at a price. The performance
is a step in the right direction by an individual but at what price?
Your sincerely
Peter Davidson
