Picasso was once seated in restaurant with an old friend. A man approached him with a drawing.

' Master,' he said 'I have long owned this drawing which, unfortunately you did not sign, would you do me the honour of signing it now?'

Picasso signed the work with a flourish.

When the man left Picasso's friend said 'You know that was not your work!'

The great artist replied

'Yes I know but it was very good"

If we are to believe the banalest of banale quotations that Rod Glick wished on the unenthusiastic citizenry of Subiaco

Picasso once defined ART as

the great lie which reveals the truth

Was Glick or Picasso the biggest liar?

'

Artists have always lied about their work, especially about how and why they make it?

Why is this? What artistic purposes do these lies serve?

Do artistic lies protect the sublime creative impulse or are they mere self promoting bullshit?

Now media releases, arts council grant forms and ambitious theory lecturers

have developed

a new more efficient kind of lie, a fictional careerist rationale.

Why do so many artists choose to lie in this mediocre uninspired way?

Could it be for the money?

Tell 8-Ball all about it, right now.
