The Rules

There's no question about it, RP needs rules or else it degenerates into a big pile of poo. The rules for roleplaying in Elaria are simple, reasonable and will hopefully stop anyone wrecking the good RP for everyone else.

  1. If you are RPing in Elaria, you must use a character that is acceptable in the network of channels which are part of Elaria. No powergamers, no god characters, no jerks. Use your head and a little common sense and we'll all get along fine. :)

  2. You may only occupy one RolePlay channel at a time. If people are sitting in more than one channel it not only distracts them (which detracts from their involvement in the RP) but, for want of a better description, it creates anomalies in the space time continuum. Unless your character is in the unlikely event of using an element of magic that allows you to be making an astral projection or some such, there should be no excuse for being in more than one place at one time. If you are in an Elaria channel, PLEASE do not occupy any other RP channels at the same time. The right is reserved to ask you to leave one of the channels.

  3. Stay within the limits of your character. If your character is a simple minded peasant they should not be able to cast spells or wield swords that are twice as long as themselves. Know your characters capabilities, accept them and work with them. No leaping tall buildings in a single bound please. :)

  4. No auto-hits. Reasonably self explanatory. When fighting, you must propose your action and allow anyone you are fighting against, to respond. eg, instead of "Xarig swings his sword and lops off Darkfire's little finger." he would use "Xarig makes a deft swing with his claymore aimed at Darkfire's left little finger, intending to sever it." Darkfire would then be expected to respond in keeping with character. Since Xarig is aiming at his little finger, one would expect Darkfire to be capable of moving his hand quickly enough to get out of the way.

  5. Pop ups and aliases should not be used in fighting, they tend to be repetitive and can get quite dull. Not to mention the fact that one should be tailoring their response to suit the circumstances.

  6. All of Elaria is a kill zone. There are no special magical happy places where people are safe from death. One should, however, remember that some people are not interested in fighting and killing and so on. These people should be allowed to enjoy their RP as much as anyone else. If you enter Elaria, there is a chance you will be killed, keep that in mind.

  7. Respect everyone's right to RP and enjoy it. If someone does not wish to participate in a roleplay scenario, don't force them.

  8. There is a limit to the amount of times a character can come back from the dead without it losing its plausability. If your character MUST return to the world of the living, ensure that it is roleplayed out and done so reasonably. No divine intervention on the spur of the moment sort of stuff is allowed. If you can be taken to a highly powerful cleric of Shallira who can do that, then fair enough, but otherwise it can just get silly. Again, it comes down to common sense.

  9. All channels that are part of Elaria are strict roleplay only. There is to be no OOC (Out of Character) discussion in channel aside from perhaps a "brb" or "bbs" or maybe "lagging/ping me". Any OOC discussion that needs to be conducted should be done in messages or in a seperate channel for that purpose. For example #Elaria_OOC.

  10. Characters in Elaria should be characters OF Elaria. As far as these people are aware, there is no such place as Earth or Krynn or anything of the like. Elaria is their home and as far as they know, that is all there is. This can be open to a few exceptions, but mostly we want to try and keep it limited. The reason for this being that if it opens up, the whole lot goes to pot and everything we were aiming for in making some good standards and guidelines gets blown out the window.

  11. Anything you do is answerable to a GM. GMs have authority in any channel and their decision is final. If you have a complaint about a GM, take it to another GM, preferably me (Darkfire) and it will be sorted out. But please do not argue with them, they have been given the title because they are noted for their RPing ability and talent and their fairness. You are always welcome to question their decisions reasonably, but like I said, please don't argue.

  12. The network of channels that make up Elaria should be considered for use by mature adults as there are likely to be scenarios involving violence, sexual encounters, drug use and other such things. If you do not wish to be exposed to such things (keeping in mind there are rarely excesses and it is all by way of description in written word) then please do not play.

  13. If you want to include something....TELL US!! Feedback is great! We love it! Suggestions, criticisms (useful ones of course) and points of view are all welcomed. If you have an idea for a race you'd like to see included, please have a chat with us and we'll get it all organised, up on the web page (hopefully drawn) and in play with your name saying "such and such made this creature". We're not into stealing peoples ideas and hope you will do the right thing by us too.
