The Mental Illness Fellowship of WA originated in 1990 as the Schizophrenia Fellowship of WA.  It was formed by a group of relatives of young people with schizophrenia. The founders had identified a critical need for community-based support for people suffering from the illness and their carers.

To meet this objective, the Fellowship has developed and delivered a number of practical and effective support services in the form of:

  • Carer support services,
  • An Information Service incorporating the telephone helpline, a resource library, and a newsletter - “Fellowship News”,
  • Lorikeet Clubhouse, a psycho-social support facility that provides a meaningful, work-ordered day for people diagnosed with a mental illness

Our purpose

“To provide a range of specific services for people with mental illness and their carers

and promote an understanding of issues relating to mental illness in the community.”
