Each time a character increases in legendary status, he may spend legend
points to raise one artisan skill, one general skill, and one knowledge
skill by one rank. He may buy a new skill at rank one if he so desires
instead of raising an existing skill in that category. The GM is free to
veto any selection, especially if the player chooses a new skill which the
character has had no in game reason to raise. The character must pay the
LPs as normal, but does not require a trainer, pay money, or spend any game
time to do so. The reason for the rule is to simulate the gradual learning
which characters get as they adventure, without having to waste heaps of
time and money to do so.
Scouts can use half-magic in place of the tracking skill, which is
particularly useful to find physical tracks so that they can then use their
tracking talent. Beastmasters can do the same thing, but only to track
animals.
