There is a sect named BESNA (Brother Ellis Society of North America) who has been found to be promoting the eating of pets (dogs, cats, rabbits etc). This sect has provided information on how to cook these animals and how to obtain them free from "Free to good home" columns and Animal Refuges/Shelters.

This sect is apparently breaking some state laws of the USA (see as follows):

The webpage below is not only a nauseating affront to decent people everywhere, but is also promoting illegal actions. The eating of companion animals is illegal specifically in several states in the United States and through our Animal Welfare Act in the entire US. The animal protection laws in the other countries mentioned on this site, also do not allow this atrocity. The obtaining of pets under false pretenses is also illegal. The threat of hacking visitors' computers is illegal as well. I am sure that your agreement with users does not allow them to use your web space for illegal activities. I am alerting the legal authorities, and the animal welfare organizations. I am also alerting the ICSA who monitors and prosecutes the makers of malicious codes, (viruses) and hackers on the net. If you think that free speech entails allowing sadistic, cruel murderers and abusers to encourage others to engage in illegal activities, I think you had better check again. Please note the California laws on eating pets, that I have pasted here for your information. My organization will be investigating the specific laws dealing with this in all the US states mentioned.

California Penal Codes:

598a. Killing a dog or cat with intent of selling or giving away pelt; possession, sale or importation of pelt with intent of selling or giving away

(a) Every person is guilty of misdemeanor who kills any dog or cat with the sole intent of selling or giving away the pelt of such animal.

(b) Every person is guilty of misdemeanor who possesses imports into this state, sells, buys, gives away or accepts pelt of a dog or cat with the sole intent of selling or giving away the pelt of the dog or cat, or accepts any dog or cat, with the sole intent of killing or having killed such dog or cat for the purpose of selling or giving away the pelt of such animal.

Pet Animal As Food Prohibited

598b. Animals commonly kept as pets or companions; use as food; violation; exceptions:

(a) Every person is guilty of a misdemeanor who possesses, imports into, or exports from, this state, sells buys, gives away or accepts any carcass or part of any carcass of animal traditionally or commonly kept as a pet or companion with sole intent of using or having another person use any part of that carcass for food.

(b) Every person is guilty of a misdemeanor who possesses imports into, or exports from, this state, sells, buys, gives away or accepts any animal traditionally or commonly kept as a pet or companion with the sole intent of killing or having another person kill that animal for the purpose of using or having another person use any part of the animal for food.

(c) This section shall not be construed to interfere with the production, marketing, or disposal of any livestock, poultry, fish, shellfish, or any other agricultural commodity produced in this state. Nor shall this section be construed to interfere with the lawful killing of wildlife, or the lawful killing of any other animal under the laws of this state pertaining to game animals.
