It is illegal to keep wild (bush) rabbits as pets, however, up to ten pet rabbits may be kept without a permit.
Regulations under the Victorian Wildlife Act, 1975, specify that several species of birds may be kept in captivity in
any number without a permit. Information on the wildlife regulations and permits required can be obtained from any
office of the Department of Conservation, Flora and Fauna Division.
