Poison carrots to bug bunnies.(Daily telegraph Sydney 2nd December 1997)
Please print out and send this form letter to the NRA
RCD Hand book to be launched on 16th December 1997Anyone wishing to write a submission against the proposed approval
of live RHD/RCD * coated baits for use in broadcasting to infect
and kill wild rabbits in Australia with RHD/RCD ,
please find the contact name to write to below.
USE OF BAITS COVERED IN DEADLY HEMORRHAGIC VIRUS IS A WORLD FIRST AND SETS A DANGEROUS PRECEDENT AS TO WHAT
AUSTRALIA AND OTHER COUNTRIES MAY ATTEMPT TO DO WITH DEADLY LIVE VIRUSES AND DESIGNATED UNWANTED SPECIES.
*RHD =(rabbit hemorrhagic disease/viral hemorrhagic disease/rabbit calicivirus
disease) same virus with different names used in different countries.
Currently USA is free of RHD (we hope) and is one of the last major
areas of the world free of this virus at this time.
It is better for all the world to keep the levels of all deadly viruses
as low as possible in the environment, not to deliberately increase levels in the environment.
No-one can predict what RHD (a deadly RNA virus of mammals for which there is no cure and no vaccines to protect any non-rabbit species)
may choose to infect next.
*Other animals may eat the baits and if they do the amount of inoculum/deadly
live virus they ingest will be anyone's guess.
*The NRA is the National Registration Authority for Agricultural and Veterinary Products in Australia
The NRA say there is no reason to wait until they receive the live virus baits submission
before forwarding personal submissions regarding the subject.
