Aussie contaminated food (yuck!)

Do you know what you are eating?

GM, GE, GMO - GEE WHIZ!

Is your food as pure as nature intended it to be or has some white coated scientist funded by big business been altering your food in ways you wouldn't like?

Visit The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator website in Australia and look at the new foods people want to put on our tables. Genetically engineered grapes?? Genetically engineered Paw Paw??? What next.

While some people are genetically engineering your food including making your food more resistant to herbicides so there will be a higher amount of herbicide residue in your food (yumm, who wants another serve of glyphosate in their breakfast cereal), others want to irradiate your food! Steritech Irradiation Facility

What a lucky country Australia is for our children. Who knows how GE'd food and irradiated food may contribute to future cancer rates.

If you care about your children's health, buy organic food and look for GE free labels on your food.

If you have time, protest to the OGTR (Office of the Gene Technology Regulator) Email Office of the Gene Technology Regulator that you want pure food, not GE'd food.

Another action you can take to help fight to keep our food supply safe is to join Geneethics.

Genethics website says "[Because of small print in food standard 1.5.2] this legal sleight of hand means that virtually no food produced using gene technology is labelled.

GeneEthics recommends that: no exemptions to the requirement to label all "foods produced using gene technology" be allowed. The current standard allows most food products from gene technology to be marketed without being labelled and this is unacceptable to most food buyers."

Write to the Standards Liason officer at http://www.foodstandards.gov.au and demand all GMO foods be labelled now.

Some points to mention include
Submission GE Labelling review - Australia
I am angry that governments allow most GE foods to be unlabelled;
all labels should have to say if food substances are derived from GE;
the standard has failed as foods made using GE are unlabelled;
I cannot find GE soy, corn, canola or cottonseed on labels;
standard 1.5.2 should require all foods made using GE to be labelled;
Australia should adopt Europe's labelling laws that require full GE labelling;

In New Zealand, scientists are said to be putting human genes into cows to produce GE'd cows milk (see "http://onenews.nzoom.com/onenews_detail/0,1227,135639-1-7,00.html"Oct 01, 2002).

This article titled "Human Genes to be put into NZ cows" quotes Neil MacGregor who is a soil scientist at Massey University and a member of the group Physicians and Scientists for Responsible Genetics. The article quotes "He (MacGregor) says Erma has made the wrong decision."

"MacGregor says even a double fence is not going to stop manure and other material from entering the food chain through soil or water runoff."

Madge (mothers against genetic engineering) says why don't they engineer women for milk and Madge has a controversial poster making the point (see below)

Good luck!
