The regulations legalising rabbit calicivirus are
illegal and should be replaced by suitable legislation,
the Regulations review Committee says.
The regulations override the Animals Act, which makes
it illegal to introduce or spread the virus.
The committee yesterdaysaid the regualtions were legally
invalid, and the Government's consultations when drawing
up the regulations were flawed. Chairman Johnathan Hunt
said a decision had been made to promulgate the regulations
prior to the closing date for submissions on the proposal.
