I have received a copy of the letter you sent to Professor Jeffcott who is away at
present. Thankyou for informing us where the matter has got to - we have given
considerable thought to this issue and this has been communicated to you in the
letters from Professor Jeffcott. I think it is a retrograde step which will have
temporary success and with the inevitable attenuation of virus and the selection of
resistant stock the Australian agricultural departments will simply be repeating
history.
I look forward to reading your submission in due course and if there are any
matters which we can comment on from this end then we shall be happy to do so.
Yours Sincerely,
Professor I McConnell
