I am very grateful for the wealth of information provided on rabbits by the 'electronic zoo' and the 'house rabbit society'and other sites. I am able to pass information on to both friends and our vets to help us all improve the care of our rabbits. Many thanks to all of you for your contributions and the sharing of this wealth of knowledge. |

Name: Cheryl Gehrke Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In! From: Arizona, USA Time: 1997-03-24 22:00:00 Comments: Hi, I have been very depressed all day after reading my new ARBA magazine "Domestic Rabbits". In that magazine, there is an article on RVHD, and how the scientists are letting this virus get out and become widespread in their attempts to destroy the rabbit population. There is another article about how you should make use of your rex rabbits for fur and use the carcass for dog food, snake food, people food. I find the whole thing totally depressing and disgusting. How can any body even thing of killing one of the most cute, cuddly, wonderful creatures that God ever made. Much less to be so greedy for money that they would in order to have the fur to sell the poor body to be made into dog food or other such foods. When is man going to understand that when God gave man dominion over all the creatures, he did not mean that they could do whatever they wanted with them. These creatures are to be tended and respected and taken care of and managed in a kind and humane way. I agree the doctor who wrote in about the stupidity and heartlessness of the human race. Might I add cruelty. Sometimes I am disgusted to be a human, and I know one other thing to be sure, and that is that mankind will be held accountable for each and every animal he destroys and has no need. People need to just leave the animals alone and nature will take care of the mess ups that man has created with his ill planned attempts at management. I have 10 pet rabbits who I love dearly and I wish I could rescue all the rabbits or even more, I wish I could stop all these blankety blank breeders from breeding without care or conscience. Thank you Cheryl Gehrke. |

Although it was quite well balanced, it did not provide enough information, and left me needing to know more, which this page has certainly done. Thanks Very much! I will keep on viewing for any updates, and possibly details of symptoms of these viruses, which unfortunately is lacking from this page. Hopefully this will be rectified, or a reference to such a page in the future. |

From: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Time: 1997-02-02 14:53:00 Comments: We are the devoted "companions" of two rabbits (Harriet and Rosie). The other night, our favourite science magazine (@discovery.ca) featured an interview with an Australian rabbit calicivirus researcher. We were horrified at the one-sided information given. He called it a "good luck story" and assured the worried public that the virus was certainly species-specific, and that the infected rabbits died blessedly fast. There was absolutely no discussion of the scientific and moral complexities of this issue. Therefore, we logged on to find REAL information about the virus, as well as its ethical considerations (which no one seems to talk about much). Seems we've found it! Thanks so much. We'll keep tuning in. |
