LEETON JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE ROUND 11 RESULTS

The successful inaugural season of the Leeton Junior Football League has concluded with the Yanco Penguins taking out both premierships decided on the final night of the season. Played before a large an appreciative crowd, all eight teams played some outstanding football to cap memorable season of junior football.

In the Under 12s, the Penguins broke away from a tenacious Whitton Tigers outfit to record a comprehensive 40 point victory, securing the Blackman Family Shield. Leading by just 5 points at half time, the premiership favourites flexed their muscles in the second half, booting six goals to one to seal a well deserved title.

Best for the Penguins were three goal hero Will Wakeman and the ever consistent Jayden Lehman, while Tyh Evans and Dylan McGillivray were also standouts. For the beaten Tigers, Christian Black continued his excellent late season form while Kane Pete, Cooper Sharman and Tom Handsaker all stood out.

In the Under 15s, the McLean Family Shield also headed to Yanco, with the Penguins too strong for the Fivebough Swans in an entertaining fixture. A tight first half saw the Penguins take a 4 point lead to the long break, however a second half avalanche saw them pile on 6 unanswered goals to win the premiership by 43 points.

For the victors Kal Poulsen continued his excellent form booting 3 majors and he was well supported the brilliant Josh Russell. Jacob Houghton continued his impressive form while Matt O’Callaghan was again a stand out. The beaten Swans had many impressive players, none more so than the hard working Pat Vallance, while Ben Ashton, Siale Howe and Josh Helson were all prominent.

In other games, the Fivebough Swans finished third after a brilliant 30 point victory over the Leeton Redlegs in the Under 12s, while the Whitton Tigers also accounted for the Redlegs in the Under 15s playoff game, booting a season high eleven goals in their 21 point victory.

The Leeton Junior Football League will return for another season in May 2010. Registration information will be available in schools next February.
