George Eldridge enlisted in Coldstream Guards at Devizes, Wiltshire, England on 23 Aug 1828 and was shown as a labourer aged 18 born Bishops Cannings, Wiltshire. He married Eliza Forehead in 1832 at Pilton, Somerset. George was at Exeter, Devon with his wife and two daughters when the 1841 census was taken. He was discharged from the Army in 1850 with the rank of Colour Sergeant and was at Ringwood, Hampshire when the 1851 was taken. He was at Christchurch, Hampshire for the 1861 census and he died there in 1869. He is shown as being born at Devizes, Wiltshire on the 1851 and 1861 census. His widow and sons George and John were at Christchurch for the 1871 census.
