Joseph L Eldridge was a member of the 159th New York Infantry, during the US Civil War, when he died of disease on 18 Jul 1864 at the Marine Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. His only surviving child was Owen L Eldridge who was recorded in the 1865 State census for New York at Colchester in Delaware County with his mother Polly in her parents household.
Owen is shown as a widower in the 1900 census and is shown as having married twice in the 1910 census for Tompkins in Delaware County, New York where he is with his wife Alice Cole, who he married on 22 Oct 1900 and a son Leon Jerome shown aged 12 is in the household. Leon was with his mother in the 1900 census in her parents household. Alice Cole was a niece of Owen's mother Polly Cole.
