SYDNEY, Sunday.
A Fearful accident happened yeaterday
afternoon at Ashcroft's engineering works,
295 Sussex-street, to a man who was em-
ployed at the works, which resulted in his
instant death.   At about 2 o'clock the
unfortunate fellow was assisting, with
others, in sliding some heavy pieces of
machinery into Ashcroft's shop, the entrance
to which is on a steep incline from the
street.   While a huge piece of iron was
being placed into position, after leaving the
dray, it canted over, and before the deceased
could escape he was crushed to the ground
under the heavy weight.   As speedily as pos-
sible ready hands set to work to raise the
piece of machinery, which occupied
some time, but it could be seen before-
hand that the man was dead.   When
extricated it was found that his chest and
abdomen were crushed in, and both legs and
arms fractured, and he was quite dead. A
constable was called in, and the body was
removed to the South Sydney Morgue, where
it now lies.
