-- David Hyams and the Miles To Go Band – 8pm Don Russell Performing Arts Centre, Murdoch Road, Thornlie Experience an evening of Celtic energy mixed with a tinge of Australian blues as David Hyams and the Miles To Go Band celebrate a decade together. The band’s seven musicians synergise both talent and instruments – cello, violin, mandolin, drums, flute and more - to produce Irish jigs and foot-tapping reels along with compositions distinctly in the realm of folk and roots. The Australian newspaper recently described the group as “among the standout acts” at Queensland’s nationally acclaimed Woodford Folk Festival. “… a fixture at many Australian festivals over the last few years. Its not hard to see why with this line up of talent. But it is really the skill and artistry of Hyams’ compositions and their power to evoke place – from Ireland to the Fitzroy River – that tantalizes. -- PAUL GIOIA and TREVOR JALLA For many years Paul Gioia has been performing blues piano and gospel tunes in various band configurations, more recently with the Paul Gioia Trio and Tin Dog. For one night only, Paul is teaming up with Trevor Jalla at the Perth Blues Club on Tuesday evening, 24th November. Trevor is well-known in Perth blues circles as an exceptional guitarist and vocalist, until recently fronting the Universal Blues Band, performing nationally and internationally (Spain, USA, Malaysia). He now fronts his own swingin' trio Mo' Candy as well as appearing as an acoustic solo artist. For the first time, these two musoes are performing together at the Perth Blues Club in an acoustic / electric set exploring different musical directions with vocals, keyboards and acoustic / electric guitars. Showcasing a mix of originals and blues standards, piano, rhodes and accordion accompany the sounds of slide and finger-style, from Chicago to the Delta and beyond. To round the evening out Andrew Winton and Paul Novosel are kicking off proceedings at 8:30, followed by Trevor and Paul at 9:30. And just when you’re warmed up Tin Dog will take you through to midnight with some rollicking blues. What more could you want?

Friday 4th December
-- Paddy's Songs - A concert celebration Paddy Connolly's Folk Music. Almost a year ago we lost a stalwart of our folk scene. Paddy sang and entertained at many, clubs, pubs and festivals. He had a huge and varied repertoire and we feel it is fitting and appropriate to put together a concert of some of the songs he sang, by those who knew and performed with him. The idea has been well received and it promises to be a wonderful night and worth noting in your diaries. The Concert will be at the Irish Club, in Subiaco, on Friday 4th December, at 7.30pm. All proceeds will go to The Australian Cancer Research Foundation, adding to the $2,400 already raised from the Paddy Connolly CD sales. The performers will include: Sean Roche, Phil Beck, The Ball Point Penquins, Bob Rummery, Colin Merrey, Digger Wilson, Fred Rea, The Mighty Quinn Singers (Mick, Tony and Kevin), Richard Collins and a very special cameo appearance by Olga Connolly.
Tickets: $15. Bookings: Phone 9381-5213. Please note: No performers are being paid; and all money (other than PA and sound costs) will go directly to The Australian Cancer Research Foundation. Background and songwords provided. Be part of raising the rafters and harmonising on magical chorus songs from Paddy's vast repertoire. Be there early, it promises to be a special and memorable night and we hope to see you all there!

Friday 26th February - Monday 1st March 2010
-- Nannup Music Festival John Butler to Headline Nannup 2010. Heading into its 21st year the Nannup Music Festival continues to showcase the best of current and emerging Australian talent and 2010 proves no exception with the announcement of Australia’s much loved John Butler headlining next years festival. Having sold out shows worldwide both in solo mode and with his trio, John Butler is one of Australia’s most highly respected truly independent artists. He is about to launch a new journey with his brand new trio as they complete the recording of their fifth studio album ' April Uprising' due out in early 2010. John Butler will reflect on past tunes and share some new music with fans at the Nannup Music Festival when he performs in solo mode which is always a real treat for fans!
Joining John will be another favorite Australian son, Harry James Angus from Cat Empire fame. Harry is a regular guest on ABC TV’s hit show spicks and specks, has played to audiences all over the world, and become renown for his unique vocal abilities and wild stage presence.
While Australian talent is always a strong focus of the Nannup Music Festival International artists form a major part of the programme so the crew are thrilled to see one of Irelands amazing female folk singers return to the town, Eleanor McEvoy. Respected as a fine multi-instrumentalist in both traditional and contemporary music, she is best known for writing “Only A Woman’s Heart”, the title track of an anthology album that’s gone on to be the best selling recording in Irish History. Eleanor was a crowd favorite at Nannup in 2008.
East Timorese Ego Lemos will also be taking the journey to Nannup. Recognised as a spokes person for East Timor’s most popular contemporary band, Cinco do Oriente, Ego had interpreted and modernised some of the most beautiful and heart-wrenching traditional melodies from his nation’s history, and produced a wreath of original songs in the Nation’s lingua-franca.
Over 200 artists will once again journey to Nannup on the March Long Weekend 2010 from February 26th to March 1st. Book your early bird tickets now and take the journey with us. Tickets from http://www.nannupmusicfestival.org

-- Denmark Festival of Voice 2010 - Advance Notice Denmark Festival of Voice is happening again in 2010 and we wanted to let you know of some important timelines. The new website will be open for traffic on 1st October 2009, including online performers applications, weekend ticket sales and volunteers applications. Performer applications will close at the end January 2010. In 2008 we received unprecedented demand for tickets and much disappointment from the large number of people, both audience and performers, who missed out on tickets. Next year we will open some new venues and will sell only weekend tickets, all as part of our committement and planning to produce the Festival in 2010, 2011 and 2012. We are working on some very exciting new creative developments for 2010 and will hope you will join us for what will be an extraordinary weekend of vocal heaven! Our website www.dfov.org.au will be updated as acts, funding grants and venues are confirmed, so stay tuned for the program announcements!
