Week 1/February
Swan Canoe Club Open Day

In case you don't already know, kayaking is fun ! It's easy and great exercise, suitable for young and old and you can get to explore some great places. So come on down and give it a go, if you're a non-paddler reading this. Experienced instructors will be on hand to help you get started.

Paddlers may wish to bring along the kids, aunties, uncles, friends, neighbours and workmates - even Granny can have a go - as long as she's able to swim of course! There's a sausage sizzle as well. Mainpeak have promised to bring along the latest in sea kayaks and play boats for you and yours to try.
9am till midday, Sunday, 13th February. Gold coin donation.

Riots in Perth
The 2005 playboats from Riot (<http://www.riotkayaks.com>www.riotkayaks.com) are now here in Perth and waiting to be tested. So if paddling THE most comfortable and forgiving high performance whitewater kayak is your dream then contact Tom at Rivergods on 9259 0749 for a try out.

Sea Kayaking in Thailand, 15th - 27th May

Contact Les for more info' - 0419 900 715.

Wildfire at Lake Jasper
This section of the D'Entrecasteaux National Park is closed until December,'05, due to a recent wildfire through the area, including the picnic/camping site. The twelve months closure is needed to enable the bush to regenerate.  <http://www.iinet.net.au/~rokhor/canoe/donnellyriv.html>Lake Jasper is located about 30km west of Pemberton, as the crow flies, and is only accessible by 4WD. It is usually a <http://members.iinet.net.au/~rokhor/canoe/images/lake+rog.jpeg>beautiful, tranquil spot to get away from it all, with about <http://members.iinet.net.au/~rokhor/canoe/images/lakejsp%2Cjpeg>4km of lake to paddle!

Swan Time Trial Tale from Paul Smith (This is a true story)
"One Friday night you're in a race, neck and neck with your opponent when a large launch goes past and you both catch the wash. Your opponent is smart enough to get right in behind the launch, whilst you catch the V wash. The party crowd on the boat becomes your opponent's fan club as he rides the wash, to their cheers, from the start of The Boardwalk boat pens, right down to the Left Bank. He has opened up an 800 metre gap on you and the delighted crowd throws him a congratulatory beer. Does he drink the beer?
Yes!
The beer is drunk and meanwhile you make up the difference. Full of bravado he decides to sally forth. Does he find that a belly full of beer and 6km to the finish with a determined opponent who made up an 800 metre gap is going to let him back into the race???   None and Buckleys!"
Swan Time Trials start 11/2/05 at 6pm. BYO beer/beverages and nibblies for afterwards.
