Paddling News Extra - White Water Park News - 3/3/05

On Friday 25 February the Department of Sport and Recreation received a formal proposal from JK Williams, a NSW company, to develop a white water park in WA.

This will trigger a very serious consideration of the proposal by the Government.

This consideration is a process that must be successful!!!

The proposal may offer full private funding or request some government funding. It could even seek another joint venture partner or there may be other options

We must ensure success from the process of consideration of this proposal.
To do so we are planning to develop wide community awareness of the proposal to ensure we maximise government support.

We are planning a significant press and radio coverage in a couple of weeks time.

Peters Fremantle to Rottnest Open Water Classic
Organisers are looking for canoeists' input into this revival of an historic swimming event, now geared to paddlers as well. "It's intended for individuals to achieve their goal in a friendly competitive environment." Western Australian Water Polo are the organisers and the 2005 event was held on 19th March. Keen sea racer, Tony Mee, was the winning canoeist.
They intend to create a new section solely for canoeists and a start time specifically for this category of craft in 2006.
For more information about the event go to - <http://www.vicparkpharm.com.au>www.vicparkpharm.com.au

If there's interested paddlers out there who'd like to help the organisers with the canoeing section please contact
John Guilfoyle, Ph/Fax: (08) 9361 8917 or  <mailto:vicparkpharm@iinet.net.au>vicparkpharm@iinet.net.au Otherwise, if you're just keen to take part, keep your eye on the canoeing calendar for the 2006 date.

Very Big Thank You!
to Terry Bolland of Canoeing Downunder from the Sprint commitee members and all of the TID junior squad members. Terry has been very generous in donating prizes for the regattas as well as donating items to the squad to see them on their way to Penrith where they will be participating in the National Sprint Championships. As well they will be competing in the National Marathon Championships afterwards. His generosity is most welcome as the cost to set up the junior athletes with equipment and to send them to Penrith is quite overwhelming. We are sure they will do you proud in the East.
