Week 2 /October
Festival of Paddle - World Marathon Championships

A fun-filled weekend: Saturday saw a huge turnout for the warm-up event, the Island to Island Race. All the results are <http://www.wa.canoe.org.au/>here.

Now we have the Masters' World Cup to look forward to on Wednesday and Thursday. There is a large local, national and international field so come down and enjoy the spectacle. Then the BIG event - the World Championships next weekend, Saturday and Sunday. There's some Aussies in for a good chance at medals. Go here for all info' including race times, start list and results.

Kids' Kayak Now Available in Perth
From Tom Suffling at Rivergods -"Having scoured the planet for a kayak small enough for Carl (my 5 year old), not only have I found the perfect boat but I get to sell it as well! It is called a Vaya from Fluid Kayaks and it is a truly kid sized sit on top for ages five to ten. The performance is amazing and Carl loves it. If you would like to see pics or clips of the Vaya in action email me at <mailto:rivergods@iinet.net.au>rivergods@iinet.net.au, or better still call 9259 0749 to arrange a try out (unless you want it to be a Xmas surprise of course - then Carl will demo it for you!). Paddling parents aside - every kayak club should have at least one of these to get the juniors paddling early.

More on . . . "what you can see from outer space" - John Mulcahy
"I was interested to read in your wk 4 e-news for September that John Hilton had spotted a flotilla of paddlers on Google Earth near Blackwall Reach. I had a close look at the image and based on the number of cars parked near
Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and the marquees on the lawn at the end of Johnson Street, it's the start of the Bay 2 Beach with paddlers heading out towards Fremantle Harbour on their way to Leighton Beach.

As it turns out this year's Mainpeak Bay 2 Beach is fast approaching (it's Sunday, November 6th, and the entry forms are out now). So this year, anyone who wants their photo taken with Clint Robinson, had better enter the event and make sure they smile for the satellite!"
If you don't have Google Earth installed it's available at: http://earth.google.com

SBS Coverage - Slalom World Champs - Sandy Maley
"I was wondering if anyone has a tape/cd of the recent SBS coverage of the mens C1 and Ladies final Slalom World Champs. I was there but would love to see the TV coverage and attempts to get it have so far failed."  Please contact Sandy at <mailto:sandyknoll@it.net.au>sandyknoll@it.net.au (I would also like a copy - please email <mailto:rokhor@iinet.net.au>rokhor@iinet.net.au - if you can help)
