Canoe Polo for Juniors: Coaching Clinic
Sunday, 19th December, 9am - 1pm, Champion Lakes

Perth Canoe Polo Club is holding a half day canoe polo training session for intermediate junior paddlers, age 12 and over. This may be of interest to any guppy coaches and their junior paddlers who have a medium proficiency level or better in a polo bat or slalom style kayak.

No experience in canoe polo is necessary but paddlers must have their basic flatwater strokes. Knowledge of the capsize drill, getting wet and having fun is essential while any Eskimo rolling skills are an optional bonus!

Cost: $10, plus CWA insurance if not already covered by a club membership (includes polo bats, helmets with face shields and all other polo equipment hire).

Bring your own PFD if you have one (it will fit better) and your paddling attire.
Prior registration is essential, before Friday, 17th December.  Boat numbers are limited to 21. For further info' or to register contact Bryan Lee, <mailto:blj39k@iinet.net.au>blj39k@iinet.net.au

Slalom Celebrity in Perth
Benjamin Boukpeti, Togolese medalist at Beijing Olympics, has been joining the WA slalom group over the last week or two for the latest race at Hester Park and some coaching, at both Ascot and Swan clubs. He runs a slalom and other sports programme for about 100 youngsters in Togo. You can see it in action <http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xeic6n_benjamin-boukpeti-togolese-olympic_sport>here. He is the first athlete from Togo to win an Olympic medal. (Where is Togo?)

He may join other top coaches, Zlatan Ibrahimbegovich and Robbie Jeffery, for a slalom coaching camp on the Collie River just below Wellington Dam, later this month. This is to help prepare the WA team competing in the 2011 Nationals at Nymboida in January. Margie Jeffery says, "Around four of our juniors will be seeking Junior Team selection and another half dozen will be hoping for selection to the National Talent Squad." Benjamin will be competing in the Australian Open at Penrith in February.

Fenn Millennium ski
was stolen from my house in Doubleview last week. It is quite distinct with a white hull and red top. There were Men's Health Carbo Shotz and Land Rover stickers on the ski and black tape covering a hole behind the seat. Could people please look out for it. Jason Thomas, 0419 809 462.

Note: It is a good idea to engrave your drivers' licence number or similar in an inconspicuous place on your paddling gear, especially boats, as that way you can positively identify your property in case of recovery by police. Small engravers are available cheaply.

Monday, 29th November
at around 1pm I left a 210cm black wing paddle at the beach of the rowing club near Canning Bridge. If found I'll pay a $50 reward and will come to pick it up.  Steve Rigby, 0403 131 973.

Broke Inlet
"Just to let you know, Broke Inlet road has now been fixed.  It was inaccessible to a 2WD vehicle six months ago, but we were there on the weekend and they had fixed it in the bad spots. It would be a slightly rough but OK road for a 2WD vehicle now.

We paddled to the entrance (which is a closed bar at the moment), camped there and paddled back, a great weekend in the roughest estuary waters I've experienced.  Not a place for the faint hearted when the wind gets up!"  Paul Tuckwell, 29th November.
