Something Other than Paddling - from Mountain Designs
Sue Fear will be giving a lecture on her climb of Everest on Aug 26 at University of WA in the Social Sciences Theatre starting at 6.30pm sharp. Cost is $15, $10 concession. The event is sponsored by Mountain Designs and World Expeditions, bookings are through World on 1300 720 000. There is a show in Mountain Designs, Bunbury, as well on Aug 27, cost $10 and $5 concession.

Congratulations from WA slalom paddlers to Kynan Maley who secured a berth for Australia in canoe/kayak slalom at the Athens Olympics by placing 9th in the World Championships at Augsburg two weeks ago!

One and a half propeller paddles, at Hart'sThicket Day 2, Avon weekend. Yes, it is possible to lose a paddle and a half of a breakdown at once! Both labelled with name and phone number, both sadly missed - reward offered for safe return - John Bates 9299 6512.
Skee paddle, just below Walyunga National Park, has 3 burgundy stripes on the blades and my name and phone no., reading Jim Halvey, 0411 883 776.
Broken paddle - wanted as my momento from 2003 Avon Descent. Lost on isolated rapid between Katrine and Dumbarton Bridges.......only safety personnel on site. Black propellor paddle carbon/kevlar shaft which snapped clean in half. Was a mate's paddle with white writing on the blade "#304, B. Green, 0417994835". According to a local source the Blackwood today is at a high winter level - perfect white water paddling. All the rocks are covered, but in the treed section there are a couple of trees to duck under - one is new.

Kayaking for juniors, Swan Canoe Club: Next beginners' course starts - Wednesday 15 Oct., 5.00pm to 6.15 pm & thereafter during school term. Cost $ 20.00 for members. Non members may try for three sessions at $4.00/session. Bookings are essential. Contact Colin Priest 9446 5505.
