Learn to Paddle
The two largest canoe clubs in WA hold informal sessions for members of the public wanting to try paddling before committing to club membership. Contacts are Arnold Drok at Ascot Kayak Club, 9364 4056 h, and Brad Reed at Swan Canoe Club, 9430 4540 h. Ascot holds monthly courses on Wednesday evenings (small fee) and Swan has a "come 'n try " the last Sunday afternoon in each month (no charge).

Summit Homes Avon Descent News
Avon Co-ordinator for the last two years, Deanne Jones, will be moving on from the Descent organisation to take up a position with a building company. We're sorry to see her go - if you'd like to send a cheerio you can do so : <mailto:email@example.com>firstname.lastname@example.org (Deanne is about to purchase her first kayak, having been inspired by Avon paddlers). The Avon Descent Committee is currently negotiating with the sports organisations to take a greater role in the event's conduct as well as appointing an overall event co-ordinator shortly.

Recreational Paddlers Take Note! Canning Canoe Trail - City of Canning
Stage 1 of this new venture goes from Riverton Bridge, west side, to Hester Park and consists of signage at certain spots and a brochure with historical, cultural and environmental interpretive notes about the river and environs plus canoeing safety. The brochure will be available online soon (<http://www.canning.wa.gov.au>www.canning.wa.gov.au), otherwise pick it up at Riverton Bridge Kiosk, libraries or the Canning admininstrative centre. Water quality on the Canning is now safe for paddling, according to the Swan River Trust, but do avoid any areas of slimy/scummy water!
Position Vacant - Sea Kayak Guide - Capricorn Kayak Tours
We are looking for a qualified and experienced sea kayak guide for our Ningaloo Reef season.
We do half day , full day, 2 day camping, 5 day Sea Kayak Safaris, and multiday expeditions.
Guide needs great personal skills, as well as sea kayaking experience and must be over 25 yrs (due to insurance restrictions). We have a base/office/home in Exmouth town, so accommodation is an option - to be negotiated.
Local knowledge is desirable. CV and references are a must.
