Week 1/July
Changes
The all important Water and Rivers Commission website with river
levels is being reorganised, as have been the government departments
(now the Department of the Environment), so I have updated my
shortcut links to telemetry readings for Great Northern Highway
and Toodyay, Baden Powell on the Murray and the table for all
the rivers whose information is available. There will be a new
interactive map for all the rivers in WA coming soon. My thanks
to Chris Frick at the Department of the Environment for helping
with the update of the links.
Paddler
available for Teams
"I know it's the eleventh hour but are there any teams in
need of a fourth member for the Avon Decent? I completed last
year's but have had other commitments that have interferred with
training for this year's. Will do any leg. If there is anybody,
please call me 0428 24 2659" - Dave Ellery
Training
Run + Barbecue Afterwards: Toodyay to Posselt's
As expected this was not held last Sunday due to lack of water
in the river, but come along this Saturday, same time, same place
: be on the water, 9am, Duidgee Park, Toodyay. Bull asks the
slower to medium paddlers to be on the water by 8.30am if possible.

Week 2/July
Unwind after the Avon!
What better way to unwind than a weekend escape to beautiful
Balingup? A little gentle stretching/basic yoga to sort out all
those overused paddling muscles, a little bushwalking, relaxing
around a fire, eating good food (that you don't have to prepare)
and great company. Inspiration Outdoors, operated by paddler,
Pam Riordan, is offering a "Tracks and Treats" weekend
August 13-15. It is based at Mullalyup Lodge near Balingup
and the price of $260 includes 2 nights accommodation, all food,
activities and transport once at Mullalyup. There is a repeat
weekend on September 17-19. Ph Pam 9378 2523 or <mailto:inspire@multiline.com.au>inspire@multiline.com.au

July 17 and 18. Our men's and women's teams are ranked 4th and
2nd respectively and will be strong medal contenders for these
Championships. The World Championships begin July 20. The girls
will be up against some strong competition with teams from France,
New Zealand, Ireland, Sweden, Canada and Hong Kong competing
whilst the men will face up against Italy, Sweden, Malaysia and

Lost Paddles,
etc
It is unlikely that the lost paddles from 2003 white water season
would be any good by now if found, but I will leave those adverts
on the lost/found page of website as - you never know - stranger
things have happened! They are now located separately below 2004
items.
For the information of new
paddlers there is a lost and found page <http://www.iinet.net.au/~rokhor/canoe/lostfnd.html>here
- but the best way to get your paddle (or other gear) back is
to make sure your name and phone number are on everything and
ledgible. Most paddlers are scrupulously honest when it comes
to returning 'found' gear.

Record Entries
- from Dave Hunt 15/7/04
"Entries for the 2004 Multiplex Avon Descent have passed
the 800 participant mark and we still have calls indicating
a few more to come. The number of teams' entries has doubled
so the extra participants have placed no extra burden on the
river environment in terms of craft. Congratulations and thank
you to all who have assisted in creating another milestone
for this icon Western Australian event."

Tent, Anaconda-2000, in thick trees on edge of the
river, small rapid 5-10 minutes before Moondyne. It has been
suggested that maybe it was lost overboard by a rafting group?
It was placed higher up the rocks just past the rapid on the
right bank (heading downstream), by a concerned paddler.

Multiplex
Avon Descent Weekend - reminders from NADA
Dont' be late!
Cameras and traffic police will be well placed to catch paddlers/support
crews speeding to their river rendezvous so watch the speedo
on the major roads and at Toodyay and Northam.
Please take your banana skins home!
We are told that the condition of river bank sites 'before' and
'after' will be under scrutiny by environmental agency so remember
to take care with rubbish and trampling the bush, etc.
White Water
Park News - from Canoeing WA
Membership is growing strongly now with over
4000 Friends of the White Water Park (FOWWPs).
Help Sought:
1 People to assist in recruiting more FOWWPs over the Avon Descent
weekend on 7th and 8th August. It is anticipated they would move
through the crowds watching the race, inviting the onlookers
to express their support for the White Water Park by registering
as a FOWWP on our registration form.
2 Volunteer (s) to enter our
new FOWWPs from the registration forms into our database. This
is done through our web page so can be done by anyone with access
to the internet.
