Week 1/March
From Richard Hathaway -
Nothing to do with paddling . . . but what a good cause!
Can YOU help out?!
You can, if you have access to a dog and a ute! W.A. has just
lost the world record for the longest queue of "a dog in
a ute" and we wanna get it back! The new record breaking
attempt will be held in Corrigin, 13th April (organised by Rotary
& Apex). Check out the details on their website:
http://www.doginaute.com or email Richard for a (web) leaflet:

Week 2/March
Avon Descent Web Pages
I have reorganised my pages which were formerly part of the official
Avon Descent website and added more with new text, pics, &
maps - Most of this new mini- site is geared towards novices
and/or interested members of the public, but the paddlers' tales
make a good read for everyone. <http://www.iinet.net.au/~rokhor/canoe/avdesc.index.html>Click
here or go to "Avon Descent" on the front page of my
site.

For Collie Paddlers
SW Irrigation (which controls amount of water in Collie River)
is investigating having the automated water release information
on their website. If it goes ahead paddlers (& others) will
be able to look up the water release which will be reliable info
for up to 24 hours ahead and a less reliable figure for between
24 and 48 hours ahead.
In case you're wondering, release
for tomorrow, Sat., is expected to be 250 megs (which is about
0.8 m at the gauging station - paddleable, but just).

Sea Kayak Club
According to Secretary, Eric Pyatt, membership of this active
club increased fourfold over the summer months. At Easter they
are joining the similarly active Albany Canoe Club for some southern
paddles. If you would like to know more about sea kayaking contact
Eric, 9339 2952.

Week
4/March
Stolen - from locked garage
If you see these around please notify the owner, Peta (9438 2997
h or 0439 943 829) who can then follow it up:
Green Finn sit-on-top. Excellent condition - distinguishable
as it has a non-standard rudder and red/pink cable running to
the rudder (as opposed to the usual fluoro yellow that Finn uses).
It also has black webbing behind the seat.
Yellow Spirit - it had done the Avon Descent (No: 793)
and still had some stickers on. Skee paddle & 2 other aluminium
shaft paddles as well.

Zoom in . . .
on aerial photos of the whole of the Avon River from Northam
to Bayswater at The Department of Land Administration: http://www.landonline.com.au
- click on Skyview WA. It won't help you to run the rapids! (but
you might just figure out where you got lost in the ti-trees).
They are summer photographs. Not available for Macintosh.
