It's
Not Cheap!
For most families sending our talented and enthusiastic younger
paddlers interstate to gain top competitive experience is a major
expense which eastern states paddlers don't have.
Terry Bolland's Avon Descent swim tests are free, but
he uses them as an opportunity to fund raise for young paddlers
- so If you're attending on either Saturday, 10th or 17th May,
please donate generously for this worthy cause! Meet at 7:45
am at Sandy Beach Reserve, Bassendean.

A Finn
looking for a Finn (or a 415)
A whitewater paddler from Finland, Esa Räikkönen,
currently living in Melbourne, would love to tackle the Avon
Descent. He has his own gear, except for a boat and a paddle
- is there anyone out there who could lend these to him for 1
- 2 weeks? He will be on his way home to Finland. Here's his
paddling background and a link to two great paddling pics:
"I am 23 years old and started to paddle 8 years ago. The
first 5 years I paddled actively slalom and now I have paddled
freestyle actively for 3 years. I take part in competitions,
but paddle mainly for fun. You can take a look at <http://www.hut.fi/~eraikkon/>http://www.hut.fi/~eraikkon/,
there is a picture of one playhole in Finland and of one rapid.
I'm in the first picture and my friend is in the second and I
have paddled in the both places."

Walyunga
Wooden Gauge
Despite all the modern technology somehow or other we all relate
best to the Avon water level reading from the old fashioned post
at Walyunga! It's just received a new coat of paint on the all
important upstream side so is very easy to read now. For the
information of new Avon paddlers I record the level from there
on my website - <http://www.iinet.net.au/~rokhor/canoe/waterlev99waly.html>http://www.iinet.net.au/~rokhor/canoe/waterlev99waly.html
but paddlers passing through or playing there need to email it
to me, as well as the time and date of the reading <mailto:rokhor@iinet.net.au>rokhor@iinet.net.au
